ABOUT ME
Filmmaker & Director

I'm Sharon Walia, a filmmaker, writer, editor & director. I specialise in social justice issues in particular refugees/migration and also wildlife/nature. I worked as a TV Journalist before stepping into the world of documentary making. My first documentary was the feature refugee film The Movement which landed a national release at Showcase Cinemas, went on to secure a tour of independent theatres and now has a home on Amazon Prime. More recently, I released The Keepers of the Pigs - the first major film on the humble guinea pig which was theatrically released and now on NETFLIX and Amazon Prime. It caused quite the media stir!
I can be hired to speak about refugee/migration issues for the media, Q&A's and events. I'm also passionate about mentoring emerging filmmakers and have hosted four BFI masterclasses about independent filmmaking and the need for supporting new talent.
I can be commissioned to make videos for your organisation, see the portfolio section for examples of my work and please get in touch if you would like to hire me! I have my own camera kit and editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro). I partner with local music composers, camera operatives and an animator for larger projects.
My third film The Route to Cappiness is currently in development!.
I'm represented by MacFarlane Chard Associates, a Trustee for Broadway Cinema and Young Creative Awards and a full BAFTA member.
